Entirely hand-made of wood and rice paper, without nails, this lantern features a low-wattage electric bulb for a soft, romantic lighting effect, and stands 18 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 5 inches deep. On either side is a carved half-moon shape, through which the light of the bulb shines. On both sides are paper screens, with images of Japanese courtesans of the Shogunate period. The wood is stained and then shellacked in polyurethane. The paper screen sides are removable.
